There are no plans to privatize any of its sixteen national parks as informed by the Tanzania National Parks Authority – TANAPA. However the country is going to invest more than 5 billion shillings this year in intensifying national parks found on the Southern Circuit.
Mr. Paschal Shelutete the Public Relations Manager of TANAPA said that his authority, which is the official custodian of these reserves, was well equipped financial and with manpower resources to watch out of all the national parks without requiring any help from internal and external investors.
Mr Shelutete disproved the recent reports in printed in the local Kiswahili weekly claiming to have cited Mr Lazaro Nyalandu the Minister for Natural Resources & Tourism, together with Mr. James Lembeli the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Land, Environment & Natural Resources as enrolling investors from South-Africa to manage Katavi National Park.
He added that TANAPA will be strengthening and bettering activities at its offices in Iringa to manage Katavi plus other southern parks like Mikumi, Ruaha and Saadani in a bid to improve the services in the Southern Tanzania Safari Circuit, as well as establish an additional office in the city of Dar es Salaam.
