The Tanzania National carrier, Air Tanzania – ATCL has agreed upon a milestone code share contract with Interair. This agreement permits 3 weekly flights between Dar es Salaam and South Africa’s Johannesburg city as a preliminary routine.
The news came just a couple of days following these two airlines officially signed the agreement to open the market in Tanzanian for Interair as well as get back the market in South African for Air Tanzania through these code-shared flight scheduled for Friday, Monday and Wednesday.
recently Talking at the East African Business Week in the capital Dar es Salaam, Captain Milton Lazaro the Acting CEO for ATCL, said that the strategic partnership of ATCL with Interair is part of an assertive repositioning of this airline, although not through the direct flights but via code shared flights, to repossess market presence as well as market share in the routes it previously served, looking with South Africa.
he added that with the use of Interair facility, their passengers will be in a position to journey to and from South Africa’s Johannesburg on the consecutive days; each Monday, they will arrive into Dar es Salaam and depart for Johannesburg every Tuesday, each Wednesday arrive into Dar and depart on the very day, then every Friday arrive into Dar and depart every Saturday for Johannesburg.
Capt. Lazaro mentioned that these 2 airlines at the moment provide market access to the travelers in the two countries that wish to not only explore but also experience a life memorable holiday in Tanzania or South Africa. And in addition offers more opportunities for diplomatic relations as well as business.
The captain further said that with this new deal, they are confident that the flight schedule will attract travelers in these 2 destinations thus offering a great revenue source which will contribute to the overall development of Air Tanzania, the Tanzania tourism sector as well as the country’s economy.

He further added that this partnership with ATCL is going to offer the clients of Interairs a brand-new, easier way to travel into Tanzania and in the same way; Johannesburg gets closer and more accessible to the clients of Air Tanzania.
Mr Cossi mentioned that Interair South Africa whose headquarter is in Johannesburg – South Africa, at present has a fleet of Boeing 767, 727 and 737 aircraft, that offer scheduled services across Africa as well as the Islands on the Indian Ocean .
He was positive that the joint venture will assist his airline create a stronger brand inside the East Africa region.
